Tasty Thursdays: Break Your Fast

Nothing says Mother’s Day like brunch, right? Last weekend, I made a very brief visit to the Bay Area to do just that. We went to a delightful little place called Break Your Fast in Union City.

They’ve got your typical breakfast fare–pancakes, omelettes, eggs. However, they’ve structured their menu a bit differently so you can mix and match. For instance, you could get 2 slices of French toast for $5.50, and throw in a side of chicken fried steak for $4.75. I got a side of beignets for us to share. If you’re the type who wants a little bit of everything, this might be a good place to check out.

Also, their specials are mostly Benedicts, but creative ones. I was sorely tempted by the Spam Benny (yeah, I like Spam! Blame Hawaii) but I went with the corned beef hash benedict instead. I’ve never encountered anything like it before. I have to say, I’ve had better Hollandaise elsewhere, or maybe it just didn’t stand out because of the corned beef hash, which was quite good. The eggs were perfectly poached, too.

My mom ordered a Krabbycake Benedict–best thing on the table. The crab cake was soft, flavorful, but with a hint of crunch thanks to the breading. Dad had a linguica sandwich and my sister ordered chicken fried steak. Both of those were on the lunch menu, which consisted mostly of burgers and sandwiches.

All of our food was good and pretty affordable, if not exactly healthy. And it’s nice to support a small local business. Good times with the fam! We just needed to recoup our energies after our Wii Bowling battle the night before. =)

Did you guys celebrate Mother’s Day? Any good food? Share it on Tasty Thursdays!
